Continental Tire is one of the oldest and largest tire companies in the world. It is actually a German company, with U.S. headquarters in South Carolina. They also own the General Tire company. They provide the OEM tire for many German makes such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche. You will find that most of their tires have the word "Contact" in the name, and they have even trademarked them, for example, ExtremeContact™.

Touring All-Season

The TrueContact is on our Best Tires list in the Touring category for cars and crossover vehicles. It is one of the best All-Season tires in light and deep snow situations, even though it is not a substitute for a true winter tire. 4.3 out of 5 based on 701 user ratings as of 10/27/18. We cannot recommend this tire. Some reviewers found they had to replace their tires earlier than expected due to faster than expected wear. We saw the same experience multiple times, with some reviewers stating that they rotated their tires as scheduled. The PureContact is a far better pick if it comes in your tire size. Ultra High Performance All-Season

The ExtremeContact DWS 06 has the best snow traction rating among UHP A/S tires at the Tire Rack, making this a fantastic choice for those who need a true 4-season tire on their performance vehicle. One negative is that the steering response/feel is not as good as other UHP A/S tires. Buyers should take note that numerous drivers have complained that the tires feel "squirmy" during aggressive driving. Continental offers a 50k mile limited warranty. ExtremeContact DWS

Snow / Winter Tires

Continental WinterContact SI

For 2017, we added the Continental WinterContact SI. A slightly different model not sold in the U.S., the WinterContact TS 860, was recently rated first place in both ADAC's 2017 winter tests as well as in German magazine Auto Bild's tests. Initial reviews of the WinterContact SI for sale in the U.S. are off to a decent start, though there are minor differences between the two Continental WinterContact models. The tread pattern is based on the same principle, though Continental has many marketing labels applied to the TS 860 (Cool Chili, Liquid Layer Drainage, Snow Curve+) that are not present in the marketing labels for the SI (PolarPlus+). Therefore, we aren't recommending the SI as one of our top tires, but it's worth considering given Continental's experience based in winters of Northern Europe.
